Bike Tour
You go along a part of the Via Francigena in the Itri area until you reach the Via Appia Antica, which in the stretch from Itri to Fondi still retains the typical Roman paving, as well as numerous testimonies of ancient times. We could admire the fort of Sant'Andrea, built on the remains of the Temple of Apollo, which was the scene of battles even in the Bourbon period with the vicissitudes of the brigand Fra Diavolo. The route continues in a loop in the locality of Sherpa, on a paved road with little traffic to return to Itri.

The History
Fra' Diavolo is certainly the most famous character born in Itri in the world. His real name is Michele Pezza, he owes his nickname to a master who addressed him to Fra' Diavolo because it made him despair and to the friar's habit that his mother made him wear as a child as a vow for a pardon received. a brigand who committed numerous murders, he was pardoned by enlisting as a colonel in the troops of King Ferdinand IV thus defending the Bourbon crown, for these merits he obtained the title of Duke of Cassano. In 1806 he was imprisoned by the French and hanged on November 11 in Piazza del Mercato in Naples
