Description: A food and wine week-end to discover and taste the typical product of Itri town, in Southern Lazio. We will bike through the olive trees where growns the olive variety known as “Itrana” used to produce a famous extra virgin olive oil: we will learn to recognize it and enjoy it thanks to the explanations of the experts. We will bike along the paths of “Monti Aurunci” National Park discovering the area known as “Campello” where was grown an ancient wheat, known as “Serena” and where you can still admire the threshing floors where the wheat was threshed.

Who is it for:
We will ride an e-bike on low-traffic trades and easy paths, through the olive groves. You don’t need to be an expert biker, you are only demanded to know how to ride a bicycle on easy dirt roads is enough. It is possible to participate with a pet, for which a special trolley will be provided. The tour is also suitable for children who are at least 140 cm tall and who know how to ride a bike. For children weighing up to 25 kg, it is possible to request a special trolley.

Day One

Starting time and meeting place: The appointment is scheduled at 10:00 am in Itri - “Piazzale Carabinieri di Italia” (free parking available). Tour guide and luggage: You will be greeted by a guide who will give you the bike and helmet. The luggage not needed during the bike tour will be transferred to the accommodation facility. The Tour: After a short briefing on the use of the e-bike, we will start the journey along roads with little traffic and paths among the olive groves. At 12:30 there will be a stop with a tasting of oil and olives and a selection of local products. Once the break will be over, we will continue to ride following an uphill path up to the ruins of the ancient Temple of Hercules, located on a hill overlooking the city of Itri with a view of the ancient Castle and the sea. We will reach the accommodation facility in Itri where it will be possible to return the bikes. Before the dinner is possible to visit the historic center of the city with the characteristic and imposing Castle. Dinner is scheduled at a restaurant that offers typical local products.

Day Two

Starting time and meeting place: The appointment is scheduled at 8:30 am at the accommodation facility for delivery of the e-bike so we will be ready for departure scheduled at 9:00 am. We will bike along roads with little traffic to reach the area known as “Campello” and following along a mountain road, crossing a beautiful beech forest, we will finally reach the heart of “Monti Aurunci” Natural Park. Here it will be possible to see the ancient herds, where the animals were sheltered during the night; the haystacks, that were small shelters for shepherds, built with dry stone walls and a thatched roof; the ancient threshing floors where the ancient grain was threshed, cultivated by the ancient people named “Aurunco". We will reach a farm where it will be possible to enjoy a workshop on how to make pasta with ancient wheat and where we could taste a lunch based on local products. Once the bike has been returned, the van will take us to the center of Itri for the return to the station or to the car park.
